Twenty-Two eager and visionary Valley Horizon members presented ideas/goals for the Valley community. From a long list of submitted ideas members of the Valley Horizon went to the boards choosing ideas they felt most needed &/or do-able. The following are summarizations chosen for consideration once a grant is received.
1. Farmers Market
Considerations for above:
Location – How many booths – Space size - How often to have it open – How to advertise - What type of equipment needed. – Barter options – Who would oversee it – Who would maintain it – Storage of food – pricing of goods – What items would sell – category limitations - Age qualifications for sales – Food handling qualifications.
2. Community Garden &/or Orchard
Considerations for above:
Where to implement the Community Garden – Organization concerns – Labor to implement idea – Exclusively organic – Cost to purchase seeds and pay for water – weed control and who is responsible for what - Organization and building of raised beds – fencing needs – water needs – Implementation of a community compost bin - property issues. Suggestion for overall garden maintenance. (Each person would be responsible for their own section, planting - weeding, harvesting and selling.)
3. Park Improvements
Considerations for above:
Acquire land ownership – install restrooms – playground – picnic tables – Booth for events – skate board park – community center for activities for kids – seniors.
4. Adult Education
Considerations for above:
Computer classes – cooking – pottery – home repair – dancing - Contract the Community College extention program to pay local teachers to give evening classes.
